Enhancing the Natural Beauty of Wavy Hair
Welcome to another exciting edition of our Hair Rehab series, where today we're diving into the world of wavy hair. Wavy hair, with its unique texture and flow, offers a world of styling possibilities. But did you know that the right haircut and care routine can significantly enhance its natural beauty? Let's explore how to make the most of your wavy locks.
Understanding Wavy Hair
Wavy hair, characterized by its loose, versatile texture, can range from slight bends to more pronounced waves. While it offers the best of both straight and curly worlds, it also requires specific care to maintain its natural charm.
Haircuts for Wavy Hair
Forget the myth that fine hair should only have minimalistic haircuts. In fact, adding texture and layers can give your waves more definition and volume. Consider styles that embrace and enhance your natural waves rather than fighting them.
Care and Maintenance
Hydration is Key: Wavy hair tends to be dry, so focus on hydrating products. Look for sulfate-free shampoos and nourishing conditioners.
Pre Shampoo Treatments: The day you are due to wash your scalp. Lather the ends of your hair with Olive oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, or Castor Oil. You can mix all of these equal parts of use what you have. Wait a minimum of ten minutes. Shampoo and Condition as normal.
Washing: Depending on your scalp health you may want to shampoo less frequently to keep ends from becoming dry. Refer to my blog about the Secrets to Scalp Health to learn more.
Conditioning: Most waves are dry and can handle more nourishment than some. Feel welcome to experiment with conditioning more, even on non shampoo days to liven up your waves.
Avoid Heavy Products: Use lightweight styling products that won't weigh your waves down such as leave in conditioners.
Regular Trims: Keep your hair healthy and your waves defined with regular trims.
Styling Wavy Hair
Brushing: Use a Boar Bristle brush on finer waves for less breakage, and a wide tooth comb or wet brush in shower with conditioning.
Air Drying: Let your waves dry naturally for a soft.
Scrunching: Either hand scrunching or towel scrunching to enhance the waves pattern.
Diffusing: If you're using a hair dryer, use a diffuser attachment on low heat and low speed to enhance your natural waves with better frizz control than if you were on full heat and full speed.
Minimal Heat Styling: When using heat tools, opt for lower temperatures and always use a heat protectant.
